After the Civil War, many young women were coming into the city of Boston to find work. They lacked safe housing, employment assistance, educational opportunities, and companionship. In 1866, 30 women got together and formed the Young Women’s Christian Association of Boston to support these young women. It was the first YWCA in the United States and it is now known as YW Boston. On this edition of Centro, learn about the work they do with their different programs and services! WBZ’s Yadires Nova-Salcedo talks with YW Boston’s President and CEO Sylvia Ferrell-Jones on the English version of Centro and to YW Boston Director of Operations Lesly Alvarado on the Spanish version of Centro! Tune in!
