On Tuesday, October 8th, several DE&I professionals from across the City of Boston joined YW Boston and NEHRA for our Diversity & Inclusion Community of Practice preview event. Ellie Harrison, Head of Human Resources for John Hancock, welcomed guests, followed by opening remarks from YW Boston CEO Beth Chandler and NEHRA’s Chief Executive Officer, Tracy Burns. Beth and Tracy highlighted the importance of convening diversity and inclusion professionals as part of a commitment to supporting human resources within organizations.

As more institutions make a commitment to diversity and inclusion in the workplace, we are seeing a steady increase of professionals entering the field. A 2019 study found that 63% of the diversity professionals surveyed had been appointed or promoted to their roles during the past three years. In March 2018, Indeed.com reported that postings for diversity and inclusion professionals had risen 35% in the past two years. Considering this, YW Boston and NEHRA have partnered to bring together a community of professionals who can work collaboratively to share best practices and learn from each other about what’s working and what isn’t. Strategies developed by this community of practice can impact policies and practices within institutions in Boston, and in turn, help create more inclusive workplaces.
