Brief intro:
I chose Caste: The Origins of our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson because it is a comprehensive and well-documented, well-written explanation of the American racial hierarchy as a Caste system. The book uses many oft-overlooked parts of US history, policy, law and politics to emphasize the point including comparison to the racial exclusion system in Nazi Germany and the Indian Caste system. The book opened my eyes to many things that support a white supremacist structure and shows just how deeply the myth of white supremacy is baked into the fabric of America from its outset to the current day.
