The Series:

“Kuumba Conversations” was inspired by last year’s roundtable confronting the Black women’s unemployment crisis, hosted by Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.

Each roundtable is structured to center 5–10 women leaders and women with direct lived experience in a facilitated conversation co-hosted by an elected official. A small group of invited partners and advocates will participate as engaged listeners, followed by moderated Q&A, resource sharing, and relationship-building.

The intent is to connect lived experience with public leadership in ways that are substantive and outcome-oriented. We aim to foster shared learning, accountability, and alignment across policy, practice, and community investment.

This April’s Session:

Join Senator Liz Miranda, 2nd Suffolk District and Aba Taylor, YW Boston’s President and CEO, in leading a discussion on maternal health in Greater Boston and center solutions and experiences around women of color in particular.

Panelists for the roundtable discussion include:

  1. Emily Anesta, President, Bay State Birth Coalition
  2. Nashira Baril, Executive Director, Neighborhood Birth Center
  3. Zev Colson, Certified Professional Midwife
  4. Ketura’h Edwards-Robinson, MSN, SANE-MA, WHNP-BC, AGNP-C
