Uyen Doan
(she/her)
Chief Impact Officer
Uyen Doan (she/her) is an organizer, facilitator and leader with nearly 20 years of experience in social justice and movement building. Born in Saigon, Vietnam and raised in the Boston area, Uyen’s early life was shaped by her family’s experiences as first-generation immigrants. Despite facing language barriers and financial challenges, Uyen’s parents cultivated community wherever they went. Every Saturday, her parents took her to the Buddhist temple in Roslindale where Uyen participated in a youth group. Every Sunday, they drove into Chinatown where her parents greeted each grocer as if they were family.
It was this love of community that led Uyen to her life’s work of organizing and movement building. Most recently, she spent over five years as an executive leader at re:power, a national training and capacity-building organization dedicated to developing the leadership of women, trans and nonbinary people of color. There, she led strategic planning and implementation, supervised a multiracial and multigenerational team delivering innovative programs, and built enduring partnerships across the movement ecosystem.
Previously, Uyen served as Training Director for Grassroots Organizing at the ACLU, where she established the organization’s first national training program, reaching more than 1,000 organizers and volunteer leaders. She also worked at Popular Democracy, supporting a network of 47 grassroots organizations to strengthen their capacity to advance pro-worker, pro-immigrant, and racial and economic justice agendas.
Uyen lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts with her wonderful husband, Michael, their adorable children, Luc and Mai, and their scampy dog, Bao. She finds joy in singing (poorly) with others, practicing yoga, and hosting dinner parties with friends and loved ones.
