Excited for the 20th Annual Academy of Women Achievers Celebration this week! Highlighting the amazing work of Rev. Liz Walker AWA ’08 today.

A veteran journalist who has worked at television stations across the country, Rev. Liz Walker is the first woman of color to anchor a news broadcast in Boston. Liz recently celebrated another first earlier this year — being installed as the first female African American pastor of the historic Roxbury Presbyterian Church. She also leads the church’s nonprofit arm, the Social Impact Center, and has doubled enrollment in its youth empowerment programs.

In 2013, Liz was named Crime Fighter of the Year by the Boston Police Department for her tireless efforts responding to community violence. She continues to fight for social justice in Sudan and has helped the city of Boston heal from the shock and tragedy of the Marathon bombings. “There is a rising. A new season, another race, another beginning. We must never forget what happened, but we will not be enslaved by the past. It will teach us and lead us boldly to the future.”
