Fierce Youth Reigniting Excellence (F.Y.R.E) Initiative 

The F.Y.R.E Initiative is an empowerment and leadership program for middle school girls* of color and gender-expansive youth in the Greater Boston area. It is a weekly in-school and after-school program that uses dialogue and experiential learning to focus on positive self-identity and social emotional skills, as well as social justice and civic engagement.  

Through the development of sense of self, the understanding of agency and autonomy, and the increased capacity for advocacy, participants of F.Y.R.E. will gain the skills and knowledge to identify needs within their community. Participants will create a community action project that addresses the disparities and inequities that directly impact them at the intersection of their race and gender.

General Statement of Duties 

YW Boston utilizes a positive youth development approach to support young people to achieve outcomes necessary for success in the future based on youth’s interests, strengths, and formative needs. In addition to collaborative program development and working directly with youth providing social justice education, advocacy, and leadership skills building, the F.Y.R.E Initiative Senior Coordinator is responsible for cultivating and maintaining partnerships with key collaborators and partner organizations, facilitating weekly meeting with youth at partner sites, as well as planning and executing content and logistics for program activities.  

Program planning duties include conducting research and facilitating workshops on topics such as race, gender, advocacy, and leadership skills along with planning the logistics for program related events for all program participants. The F.Y.R.E Initiative Senior Coordinator will provide excellent communication and programming to participants, and best-in-class relationship stewardship with partner organizations.  

YW Boston is committed to assessing performance and implementing improvement measures to ensure high-quality programs, and the F.Y.R.E Initiative Senior Coordinator is responsible for accurate and timely collection and input of data in YW Boston systems as well as utilizing the learnings from the data to improve practice and programs.  

The Senior Coordinator will report to the F.Y.R.E. Initiative Senior Program Manager. This position is hybrid with a weekly requirement of at least two days at the YW Boston office/on-site for programming and a maximum of three days remote. YW Boston follows the latest guidance from the CDC and MA Department of Public Health and all employees are strongly encouraged to be fully vaccinated and boosted. 

Position Outcomes 

The successful F.Y.R.E Initiative Senior Coordinator will achieve the following outcomes:  

  • Successfully meet program goals including execution of logistics, program quality, and number of youth engaged 
  • Deliver high quality and effective content to youth through facilitation of F.Y.R.E curriculum and services 
  • Execute accurate collection and timely input of all data 
  • Ensure youth meet outcomes goals around knowledge and attitude changes and successfully complete Community Action Projects 
  • Foster and participate in inclusive learning and growth opportunities externally with partner organizations and internally with YW Boston colleagues 

Key Responsibilities: 

Program Development & Implementation 

  • Contribute to the development and achievement of program goals and outcomes  
  • Collaborate with Senior Manager to design and evaluate program including curriculum development 
  • Conduct research, and develop and facilitate workshops on crucial topics such as self-esteem, healthy relationships, advocacy, race and gender equity to middle school girls at local Boston public schools, charter schools, parochial schools, and other youth-serving agencies. 
  • Develop comprehensive slide decks and other learning materials as required for customized workshops, ensuring content relevance and accessibility to the target audiences 
  • Develop and implement follow-up strategies to track program impact, participant progress, and provide youth support beyond F.Y.R.E program sessions. Support and coach youth in successfully completing their Community Action Projects (CAPs) 
  • Identify resources to meet youth needs and facilitate warm handoffs to appropriate partners 
  • Comply with Massachusetts mandated reporting laws regarding welfare and safety of youth participants in programming. Proactively implement safeguarding best practices in all interactions with youth under supervision and guidance of Senior Manager 
  • Remain current on relevant events to provide informed and appropriate support and guidance to youth, integrating real-world issues into program content under the supervision of Senior Manager and YW Boston Leadership Team 
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team on social media content for the F.Y.R.E Initiative social media to promote community engagement and critical thinking about social justice and current events 
  • Collaborate with Advancement team  to ensure grant eligibility, enhance competitiveness, and tell compelling stories of program impact to attract and retain donors and supporters 
  • Coordinate all logistics and operational needs for program, ensuring seamless execution of events, workshops, and other program related activities to maximize participant engagement

Data and Performance Management 

  • Ensure accurate and timely collection of all data including attendance, assessments, and evaluations 
  • Enter all program data by deadlines set by Senior Director of Data and Impact  
  • Regularly assess, measure, and evaluate youth development outcomes through a data driven approach in collaboration with the Senior Manager and Senior Director of Data and Impact 
  • Identify and provide recommendations on quality improvement opportunities within programming scope based on data and observations 

Partnerships and Collaborations 

  • Coordinate contracting and billing activities under leadership of the Operations and Finance teams 
  • Collaborate with the Director of Leadership Services to coordinate logistics and operations with program partners 
  • Maintain relationships with program partners and collaborators conducting partnership meetings, soliciting, collecting, and evaluating feedback from partner organizations 

Additional Organization Responsibilities 

  • Adhere to organization policies and procedures for maintaining organizational culture and transparency, including use of regularly scheduled progress meetings with supervisor, team meetings, scheduling, e-mail and other communications platforms 
  • Serve as a steward and role model of YW Boston’s shared values in all interactions with colleagues 
  • Positively represent YW Boston and serve as an ambassador for our mission in all interactions with the public 
  • Support YW Boston advancement through participation in education, outreach, donor cultivation and stewardship efforts as directed by the Vice President of Advancement 
  • Participate in organization events and perform additional tasks assigned by the F.Y.R.E. Program Senior Manager, the Vice President of Programs,  and/or the President & CEO 

Experience/Qualifications 

This Senior Program Coordinator is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a rich background in youth development, strong facilitation skills, a commitment to equity, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. The role demands a proactive approach to fostering inclusivity, empowering youth, and contributing to the broader mission of YW Boston. 

  • 3+ years of youth development experience 
  • Demonstrated commitment to YW Boston’s mission to promote racial, gender and social equity 
  • Ability to work independently to coordinate logistics (travel to site, plan with FYRE team, etc.) 
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality and impactful content to youth through effective facilitation. Experience in creating inclusive learning environments and adapting content to diverse audiences 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a goal-oriented team environment and collaborate effectively with colleagues 
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated project ownership experience, effectively conveying ideas, and ensuring clarity in communication 
  • Openness to learning and willingness to give and receive constructive feedback 
  • Experience using social media and other tools to build member engagement 
  • Knowledge of racism and sexism, and the various ways it manifests in modern day society, as well as having an awareness of their racial identity, personal biases and solid understanding of their own history related to racism 
  • Must be able to travel around Greater Boston via public transportation, Lyft, and/or personal car 

Preferred qualifications include: 

  • Proficiency in Spanish, native fluency highly preferred 
  • Proven ability to employ a trauma-informed behavior management approach, including use of positive redirection 
  • Knowledge of a variety of behavior management strategies preferred 
  • Program evaluation skills: experience observing, gathering, and analyzing both quantitative and qualitative data 
  • Experience with Salesforce 

Salary and Benefits: 

This is a full-time, exempt position. Annual salary range is $60,000-$68,000. Salary scales are set according to an explicit compensation policy, and relevant market data is analyzed when setting ranges for each role. To ensure internal parity, YW Boston will analyze the candidate’s overall number of years of experience as well as relevant experience pertaining to the position and in comparison with staff in the same job group to make the offer salary. Because salary ranges are small and the internal parity review is thorough, offers are firm.
