In a time when innocent black men (most recently, Stephon Clark) continue to get gunned down by police, and children set out to march for their lives, all of us have a responsibility to do what we can to address issues of gun violence, racism and injustice.  It is of critical importance that we educate ourselves and each other on the history of the brutality we are witnessing across our country.  This year, we are calling on YOU to help bring your community together in conversations facilitated with content curated by local leaders who are deeply committed to helping eliminate racism in Boston and beyond.

We are fortunate to have as our 2018 content curators, Saphire Broxton, Habiba Elfass, Adam Grossman, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, Justin Kang, James Le, Vernā Myers, and Sumaiya Zama.  These inspiring individuals have put a lot of thought into sharing content that will help you and your organizations have meaningful conversations on confronting and working together to eliminate racism. 

We’re counting on you to become agents of change in your community.  Inspire the people you love and care about to think critically about the current moment and about what we can collectively do to help change systems corrupted by intrinsic biases, racist beliefs and unjust practices.  At YW Boston, we know that your voices matter.  You have the power to make a difference in your own networks and circles of influence.  You can lead a discussion that changes minds, opens hearts and lays foundations for change.

We need you to help us have the difficult conversations.  We need you to open your doors to your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, fellow members of your religious institutions, your academic networks, or any group that you’re a part of.  Invite these people into your living rooms, basements, backyards, gardens, or bring them together in a conference room or at your local library, coffee shops, or pub.  It doesn’t matter where you decide to meet up for these discussions.  What matters most, is that you have them, that you forge the connections and dive into dialogues on the devastating impact that racism has had and continues to have on our communities.  Talking through these difficult experiences helps everyone heal, helps people awaken to their own participation in the status quo and may move them to action.
