LeadBoston is excited to announce the launching of recruitment season for our Class of 2022; applications will officially open on July 14th. If you think you, your organization, or someone in your network could benefit from a program dedicated to expanding participants’ inclusive leadership skills, please join us on Friday, June 25th, from 1:00 to 2:00PM, for a virtual LeadBoston info session. During this event, attendees will hear from the LeadBoston team and have the chance to ask recent alumni about their experience.

The LeadBoston year (January through November) provides participants with a unique opportunity to explore the complexity of Boston’s inequities through an inclusive leadership lens. Each month, mid- to senior-level participants gather to discuss pressing issues and trends and hear first-hand from civic leaders, community organizers, business people, and academics. Through curated content and responsive programming, participants gain direct insight into key institutions and levers for change, strengthening their skills as leaders committed to advancing equity within their organizations and the broader community. The program includes opportunities to connect with classmates, as well as access to networking, educational, and social opportunities with LeadBoston’s extensive alumni network.

It is hard not to get excited about LeadBoston after hearing from our alumni.

When we ask LeadBoston participants about why they decided to apply to the program, they almost always refer to something an alum said. Sometimes, that person is a colleague who comes back from each LeadBoston program day, excited to share their learnings and takeaways with the team. In other instances, they saw someone speak about the impact of the program on their lives on social media or YW Boston’s website. We’ve featured a number of alums on our blog the past few years. Read on to see alums have to say about their LeadBoston experience.

LeadBoston gives in-depth context into local inequities.

“I had the extraordinary chance to examine the city of Boston from multiple entry points, with under-the-hood glimpses into our school system, our hospitals, our prisons, our housing developments. I have a richer taste of Boston’s neighborhoods, a mental model of recent demographic and economic trends, and a Rolodex of leaders currently playing a role in its future.” –Colin Stokes ’18

LeadBoston makes participants into more intentional decision-makers.

“Colleagues and fellow LeadBoston alum kept telling me how much the program changed their leadership styles. As managers, some of us don’t sit back often enough to think about the impact of socio-economic obstacles on our employee’s work and professional development. After participating in LeadBoston, I’ve become more thoughtful about hiring, coaching, supporting pipelines, and my decision-making has become less isolated.” –Evelyn Abayaah ’18

Participants graduate into Greater Boston’s largest network of inclusive leaders.

“When you look back at the past decade-plus, pretty much every major health center, human services group, or youth development organization in the city has had someone in a leadership position go through LeadBoston and so being able to use that network to help get all of those groups connected on the platform was both affirming and definitely eased the process of [building support for my leadership commitment project].” –Trevor Samios ’19
