Two decades of honoring Boston’s remarkable female leaders

Boston, MA — YWCA Boston will host a diverse group of public, private, and nonprofit professionals for the 20^th Annual Academy of Women Achievers Celebration Luncheon on June 18, 2014, at the Marriot Copley Place. The event honors the extraordinary accomplishments of local female leaders and celebrates YW Boston’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote social equity.  This year’s inductees into the Academy of Women Achievers (AWA) are:

YW Boston is also proud to present its Lifetime Achievement Award to Evelyn F. Murphy, AWA ’95, former Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts and President of Wage Project, Inc.

“Over the last 20 years, YW Boston has continually evolved to confront systemic barriers to racial, gender, and social equity,” said Sylvia Ferrell-Jones, President and CEO of YW Boston. “Much has changed in our city over two decades, and the need for changemakers who are equipped with the cultural understanding necessary to lead in our diverse economy has only intensified. YW Boston is honored to recognize the outstanding Class of 2014 and their fellow Academy of Women Achievers alumnae for their tireless commitment to the civic life of Boston.”

As part of this year’s milestone, YW Boston is taking a look back at the last 20 years of AWA, highlighting stories and recent achievements of several of the nearly 200 alumnae. These inspiring stories can be found on the YW Boston Blog, Facebook, and Twitter beginning 20 days before the event. 

Tickets for the Academy of Women Achievers Luncheon are available for purchase online. All proceeds support YW Boston’s efforts to increase racial, gender, and social equity in Boston.
